So if he's been looking forward to watching the playoffs all weekend, or one of you just walked in the door from work, the distraction or the stress can have a negative impact on your conversation. Try waiting until there's some down time, like right before bed or over dinner. Both of you will be more relaxed, which should make it much easier to say what's on your mind.
